1. Read. Reading is the best way to encounter new vocab.
2. Don't try to learn many words a day, about five or six.
3. First (if necessary) try to guess the meaning from the context.
4. Analyze the word. What part of speech? Look at the prefix suffix and stem.
5. Ask someone.
6. if all fails and you really need to know this word (a doubtful necessity) look it up in an English dictionary.
7. Don't just learn one word. Study the whole family.
8. Check the spelling and stress.
9. Write the word down (if you know the phonetic symbols use these as well) with synonyms and definition written in English.)
